Hello! I am David Purucker. I am a sociologist with interests in the study of democratic socialism, social movements, and political economy. On this website, you can find contact information and a list of my published articles and media appearances.
I hold a PhD in Sociology from the University of Oregon, with a dissertation on the rise of democratic socialism in the United States. I am currently working on a coauthored academic press book about the same subject.
My peer-reviewed work has appeared in Critical Sociology, Environmental Sociology, and Interface. I have discussed my work on the Niskanen Center Science of Politics podcast and I was recently quoted in The Economist for a story on democratic socialism.
My writing on the subject of environmental justice has been cited 25 times, including in high-impact journals in sociology and human geography, and edited volumes in three languages.
If you are a journalist trying to understand DSA, I am happy to chat. And if you are an editor looking for a scholarly perspective on DSA, socialism, or some related topic, I may be open to writing for you.
